43DB

From Rare Gaming Dump

43DB refers to a series of files found in the vWii System Menu, containing a number of partial Game IDs for Wii disc, VC, and WiiWare titles. It is unknown why these specific titles have been included in this set of files, or what their significance is. The "43" in the name likely refers to 4.3, the version of the Wii System Menu which the vWii Menu is based on. However, these files are not present in "normal" 4.3.

The files are "discdb.bin", "vcadb.bin", and "wwdb.bin"; discdb contains several disc IDs, as does wwdb, but vcadb only has 6 IDs.

Research, as detailed in the following section, seems to indicate that these files are likely compatibility lists of some sort, indicating titles which have a certain property which were gathered off Nintendo's mastering servers by an automated script. However, it is unknown what this common property is.

This appears to be a list of the first 3 characters of a number of Wii Disc IDs - since a complete Wii Disc ID is 4 characters (example: RMGE), with the last character specifying region, this appears to be a number of region-independent IDs, with the only pertinent information being the particular game. While not all of these IDs have been tested, initial observation and testing seems to conclude that these are all valid IDs; however, it is unknown why these particular IDs were selected for inclusion, or what the purpose of this file is. Certain games have IDs which are included in this list, but the next ID in alphabetical order is also a valid ID but is not included; this seems to remove the possibility of there being any obvious logical order to this list.

Of particular note is the inclusion of "RAA", which is the first 3 letters of the ID for the Wii Startup Disc; its inclusion complicates matters significantly, as the Wii Startup Disc had not been used since years before this list would have been created, and is completely irrelevant to vWii; as such, this makes it far more difficult to explain the nature or purpose of the list, since there is no logical reason for this disc ID to have been included. This may indicate that the file was generated by some form of automatic script scraping Nintendo's disc master servers for discs with a certain, unknown, property, and this seems to be the most likely theory for what this file is.

vcadb.bin

These are the contents of vcadb.bin:

43DB............E5Z.E62.E63.E6W.E6X.E6Z.

All of these IDs are for valid Virtual Console Arcade titles, matching with the "a" in the filename. As with the previous section, it is unknown what the significance of these titles is, or specifically Virtual Console Arcade titles compared to other Virtual Console titles.

wwdb.bin

These are the contents of wwdb.bin:

43DB.......‚....HAJ.HAP.HCB.W22.W2L.W34.W3B.W4A.W4O.W5I.W64.W69.W8I.W8L.W8X.W9L.WAF.WAN.WAZ.WBA.WBI.WBL.WBR.WBV.WC2.WCH.WCI.WCJ.WCO.WCP.WCU.WCV.WCZ.WDA.WDE.WDF.WDN.WDX.WEM.WF3.WF5.WFA.WFI.WFK.WFM.WFN.WFY.WGU.WH3.WHE.WHO.WIN.WIT.WJS.WKD.WKE.WKI.WKK.WKN.WKU.WKW.WLC.WLD.WLJ.WLK.WLM.WLP.WLT.WLX.WM4.WM5.WM9.WMD.WML.WMO.WO6.WOA.WOD.WOF.WOG.WOL.WOP.WOX.WP6.WP9.WPB.WPD.WPJ.WPN.WPP.WPQ.WPT.WPX.WPZ.WQ4.WRA.WRD.WRF.WRS.WS2.WS3.WS4.WS5.WS6.WS9.WSH.WSI.WSX.WT8.WTB.WTD.WTI.WTN.WTU.WTX.WUK.WW2.WW3.WWI.WWX.WZB.WZG.WZM.XH2.XH7.XH9.XI9.XIT.XIU.XIV.

These appear to be real WiiWare game IDs. As with previous sections, their significance is unknown.
